BE SPECIFIC!

 

Dolphins:
Trainers blow a whistle to tell a dolphin ‘Good job!” at the specific moment they do something correctly to let them know exactly what they are being rewarded for.

 

 

 

Humans:
Don’t just say “Good Job” to someone unless you tell them specifically what they did that you are acknowledging them for.  When you are more specific with your reinforcement, you are more likely to see those details from their good behavior occur again.

 

DISCOVER REWARDING REWARDS

 

Dolphins:
Trainers will test out various rewards with the dolphins to see what else they enjoy and often times the dolphin doesn’t want any more fish, but would rather play with the trainer or a toy.

 

 

Humans:
Pay attention to how people respond to your rewards because everyone is different.  One person might enjoy a gift card or time off of work, while others may prefer a simple ‘Thank you” from you either in person or in a card.  Different rewards make different impacts on people, so choose wisely to make a bigger difference.
