Oahu -Kid’s Program Rolls Excitement and Fun into a Big Adventure
The one-and-half-hour Kid’s Aquatic Adventure has it all. Dolphin Quest Oahu’s favorite children’s program features fun new activities and classic favorites. From sea turtles and stingrays to dolphins and tropical fish, children ages five to 10 years old will enjoy interactive activities that explore the anatomy, lifestyle and habitats of aquatic animals. The adventure’s exciting finale includes touching a trained stingray and meeting a dolphin in shallow water.
During the 20-minute dolphin encounter, children can touch a dolphin, watch him perform fun behaviors and even ask him for a hug or a kiss. Guests enjoy helping the trainer reinforce the dolphin for a job well done by feeding him fish, clapping, cheering and tossing toys into the lagoon.
Throughout the dynamic program children receive personalized attention from a Dolphin Quest educator, who leads hands-on games. For example, children role-play being an endangered sea turtle crawling on the beach and digging a nest. Next, they discover what happens to the eggs and how each child can help turtle hatchlings survive by filling in sand castle holes and not using plastic bags.
Playing the training game teaches children to think like a trainer. Guests take turns being an animal or a trainer. Without speaking and only using a clicking sound to indicate yes, the “trainer” teaches the “animal” a new behavior such as turning in a circle or touching a bush. After experiencing training through a trainer’s and through an animal’s eyes, the children may participate in a fish training session. Several of Dolphin Quest Oahu’s fish are learning how to do speed swims and jump through a hula hoop.
